Artificial-intelligence firm mCloud Technologies Corp. is partnering with an Alberta crown corporation to improve the province’s standing on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues as it moves towards decarbonizing its energy industry.

The company announced Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Invest Alberta Corp. (IAC) with the mandate to attract investment in the province. Under the agreement, mCloud will relocate its global headquarters from Vancouver to Calgary.

The company said it will use its technology to help Canadian energy companies reduce carbon emissions and position Alberta as a global leader in sustainable energy. mCloud’s AssetCare platform uses AI to make energy-intensive assets more efficient and sustainable.

“With the support of IAC, we will be able to open doors to new strategic relationships with key oil and gas companies across Alberta and help these and many other businesses, locally and globally, improve their ESG standing,” mCloud President and CEO Russ McMeekin said in a press release.

mCloud has close to 300 employees and already has offices in Calgary and Edmonton. The company said it expects to expand its workforce in Alberta as a result of the agreement.
