Amazon announced plans on Monday to expand its tech hub in Vancouver, B.C., in a move the company says will create 3,000 new jobs.

"Vancouver is home to an incredibly talented and diverse workforce, and these thousands of new employees will invent on behalf of our customers worldwide,” said Alexandre Gagnon, VP of Amazon Canada and Mexico, in a release.

The tech giant will open its new Development Centre in QuadReal’s The Post redevelopment in 2022.

"Our vibrant cities, which are home to some of the best talent in the world, are poised to attract premier investment that creates the jobs of tomorrow. Canadians share your passion for invention and your commitment to excellence – and that's why we are excited to see Amazon grow here in Vancouver," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a release.

The new jobs will be in the fields of cloud-computing, e-commerce, tech, and machine learning. Amazon currently employs more than 1,000 researchers and engineers in Vancouver.
