Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN.O) announced on Tuesday it’s raising the minimum wage for all employees in the U.S. to US$15 an hour. This map shows how an entry-level worker’s pay will compare with the median pay in communities where the company has warehouses.

Employees in 57 per cent of the locations will make less than the local median. Bloomberg calculations used a 40-hour week for the Amazon workers to arrive at annual pay of US$31,200. Local earnings data came from the U.S. Census Bureau, and Amazon warehouse locations were provided by Avalara, a tax-software provider.

Workers in San Marcos, Texas, fare best, earning US$14,000 a year more than local median pay. Employees in Robbinsville, New Jersey, don’t make out as well: Even with the raise, they would earn about US$30,000 less. Those in Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania, will be close to the local median, making US$40 more.
