Gas prices hovering around $2 per litre in Montreal

Gas prices in the Greater Montreal area are hovering around $2/L on Monday morning.

Experts explain that the price surge is due to the war in Iran, which is cutting off 20 per cent of the world’s oil supply.

The last time gas prices were this high was in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Sanctions on Russian oil drove costs up as high as $2.23/L.

According to gasbuddy.com, the average price in Montreal is currently 189.3 cents per litre.

The site notes that a few gas stations have posted slightly lower prices, including the Costco on Bridge Street at 176.9 cents, Mobil on Wellington Street at 179.9 cents and the Canadian Tire on Wellington Street at 179.9 cents.

It points to the Petro-Canada on Saint-Denis Street as the highest at 225.9 cents per litre.

Similarly, according to Essence Montreal, the lowest prices were at the Shell on Cousineau Boulevard in Saint-Hubert, Longueuil (168.9 cents) and the Shell on Saint-Luc Boulevard in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (169.9 cents).

Contrarily, the site claims the highest prices were at the Ultramar on Côte-Vertu Boulevard at 234.5 cents, the Esso on Sainte-Catherine Street at 201.3 cents and the Ultramar on Shevchenko Boulevard at 195.9 cents.
