TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up more than 350 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the financial sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 371.62 points at 35,173.16.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 861.42 points at 51,548.49. The S&P 500 index was up 18.35 points at 7,572.03, while the Nasdaq composite was down 52.49 points at 26,801.49.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.92 cents US compared with 72.03 cents US on Wednesday.
The July crude oil contract was down US$3.04 at US$92.98 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$34.80 at US$4,501.70 an ounce.
