VANCOUVER — Ballard Power Systems Inc. has signed a deal to buy U.K.-based GeoPura Ltd. in an agreement valued at about US$400 million including cash, shares and assumed debt.

GeoPura develops, leases and sells hydrogen power units and hydrogen fuel supplied through its three production sites, including a 50 per cent stake in U.K.-based HyMarnham Power.

Ballard says the transaction builds on its partnership with GeoPura and that its technology and British manufacturing will complement its own fuel cell expertise.

Ballard chief executive Marty Neese called it a transformative acquisition that establishes Ballard as a leading, fully integrated hydrogen ecosystem provider.

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

GeoPura founder and chief executive Andrew Cunningham is expected to assume the role of Ballard president, reporting to Neese, once the deal is complete.
