Brookfield says it has entered into an agreement to acquire independent power producer Aypa Power.

The company says it is acquiring Aypa Power for about US$7 billion from funds managed by Blackstone Energy Transition Partners.

Brookfield says Aypa Power is the largest standalone battery storage developer in North America with a diversified portfolio across the U.S. and Canada.

Under the terms of the deal, Brookfield will acquire Aypa Power’s project portfolio, its development platform and its team of about 200 people.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.

Jehangir Vevaina, the chief investment officer at Brookfield’s energy group, says battery storage is increasingly important to today’s energy systems.
