More than 20,000 Ford vehicles in Canada are being recalled, with the manufacturer noting issues in two popular models. Similar recalls in the U.S. have affected more than 134,000 vehicles.
In separate recalls, the company noted issues with the rear quarter window glass trim in the Mustang Mach-E for two model years and the rear-view camera image with the F-150 and F-250 Super Duty in several model years.
Mustang Mach-E
In a recall first posted by Transport Canada on Jul 28 and updated Thursday, the company stated that it is recalling 14,950 units of the Mustang Mach-E.
The recall affects the 2023 and 2024 model years.
The notice stated that the left and right rear quarter window glass trims may not have been secured properly in certain vehicles. The trim could loosen and separate from the vehicle, creating a road hazard for other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash.
The company stated that it would notify drivers by mail and advise them to bring their vehicles to a dealership to be inspected and, if required, have the trims replaced.
A similar recall posted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on July 28 applies to 86,543 units from the 2023 to 2025 model years.
F-150 and F-250 Super Duty
A separate recall posted on July 28 and updated Thursday applies to 7,362 Ford F-150 and F-250 Super Duty pickups in Canada.
According to the notice, the following vehicles may have a software problem that could cause part of the rear-view camera image to be blocked, when Canadian regulations require the full rear-view image to display when the transmission is in reverse gear:
- Ford F-150: model years 2021, 2022, 2023
- Ford F-250 Super Duty: 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026
The recall only affects vehicles with an eight-inch display and 360-degree cameras.
A rear-view camera image that is not fully displayed could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle when backing up, which could increase risk of a crash, the recall states.
The company stated that it would notify owners by email and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles. Owners can also schedule an appointment to have the update done at a Ford dealership.
A similar recall posted by the NHTSA on July 28 affects 47,587 units in the U.S.
