MONTREAL — Former federal environment minister Steven Guilbeault is becoming an executive adviser for an investment fund sponsored by a Quebec labour union.
Guilbeault will advise Fondaction on climate, biodiversity and the green economy as part of his new role.
Fondaction and Bâtirente, a labour union group pension fund, announced Guilbeault’s appointment on Tuesday.
Fondaction says Guilbeault will help shape its environmental strategy and build partnerships across the economic, institutional and social sectors.
Guilbeault will work part-time while pursuing other long-term commitments.
He says collective savings are among the most powerful tools available to accelerate the ecological and social transition.
Guilbeault will also attend Climate Week in New York later this month alongside Fondaction CEO Stéphan Morency.
The longtime environmental activist entered federal politics with former prime minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals in 2019 and served as environment minister from 2021 until Mark Carney became prime minister in March 2025.
Guilbeault recently left federal politics after becoming increasingly critical of the Carney government’s approach to climate policy.
