Volkswagen Canada is recalling thousands of vehicles due to an issue that could leave drivers unable to steer and may “create a risk of a crash.”
Volkswagen is recalling more than 44,000 units, including its 2018 Atlas and Tiguan models, as well as the 2019, 2020 and 2021 models of the Audi Q3 SUV.
“On certain vehicles, one of the bolts that attaches the steering rack to the subframe could corrode and break,” a recall issued Sept. 11 and updated Thursday through Transport Canada said.
“If this happens, the steering rack housing could break and cause a loss of steering control.”
A similar recall for more than 200,000 of the same vehicles was issued in the United States through the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday
The company say it will reach out to owners by mail, asking them to take affected vehicles to a dealership where parts can be replaced.
Drivers can also visit Volkswagen Canada or Audi’s respective recall websites and enter their vehicle identification number.
