Canadian miner Teck Resources said on Wednesday it received strike notice from United Steelworkers Local 7619 at its Highland Valley Copper operations in British Columbia.
The notice entitles the union to begin strike action as early as Oct. 24, 8:00 a.m. PT, Teck said.
Contingency plans are in place to maintain safety and environmental management during any labour action, it added.
Operations continue at Highland Valley Copper, according to the miner.
Teck said it remains committed to reaching a collective agreement that is fair and reasonable for employees while supporting the operation’s ongoing viability.
The collective agreement at Highland Valley Copper expired on Sept. 30.
