Hyundai is recalling more than 1,400 Ioniq 9 SUVs in Canada over a potential problem with the vehicles’ second-row power seats.

The recall affects certain 2026 and 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Ultimate Calligraphy models equipped with second-row captain chairs, according to a Transport Canada notice updated Thursday. A total of 1,460 vehicles are affected.

The issue involves the seats’ power-folding function. In some vehicles, the second-row seats may fail to detect an obstruction and could continue moving even after coming into contact with something in their path.

The notice added that a seat that does not stop moving could increase the risk of injury.

As a precaution, Hyundai advises owners to make sure the second-row seats are empty before using the power-folding functions until the recall repair is completed.

Hyundai will notify affected owners in writing and provide a software update for the rear power seats. The update can be delivered wirelessly to eligible vehicles, or owners can arrange to have the work completed at a Hyundai dealership. The repair will be provided at no charge.

Owners can check whether their vehicle is affected by entering its vehicle identification number (VIN) into Hyundai Canada’s recall lookup tool.

A similar recall was issued in the United States for certain 2026 Ioniq 9 vehicles equipped with Limited, Calligraphy or Calligraphy Design trim packages. The U.S. recall affects 5,360 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The U.S. notice similarly warns that the second-row power seats may fail to detect a person and continue moving during functions such as automatic power folding and stowing.

U.S. owners are advised to exercise caution around the second-row seats until the software update is completed.
