High-profile Canadian fund manager Dennis Mitchell has a new home.

The former Sprott Asset Management and Sentry Investments portfolio manager is joining Starlight Investments to lead its new Starlight Capital division as chief executive officer and chief investment officer.

Starlight, which manages $8 billion worth of residential and commercial properties, says its new investment business will target global securities with the intent of launching its first fund soon.

"We are extremely pleased to be adding such an experienced and highly respected professional to the Starlight executive team," said Starlight Investments CEO Daniel Drimmer in a press release.

Mitchell, a frequent guest on BNN, most recently served as senior vice-president and senior portfolio manager at Sprott Asset Management until leaving the firm last summer after a management-led buyout.

Prior to that, Mitchell was chief investment officer at Sentry until the company abruptly severed ties with him in 2015.
