General Motors Canada is planning to close all of its operations in Oshawa, Ont., according to CTV News.

The closures, expected to be announced Monday morning, will be part of a global restructuring of the company and are expected to affect thousands of high-paying jobs, according to the report published Sunday, which cited numerous sources.

“We have no news or comment [Sunday night] and won’t be commenting to others on speculation," said GM Canada VP of Corporate Affairs David Paterson in a statement to CTV News.

Unifor, the union representing the hourly workers, said in a statement Sunday it received notification from GM that the company will make a major announcement Monday that will impact its global operations.

“While the union does not have complete details of the overall announcement we have been informed that, as of now, there is no product allocated to the Oshawa Assembly Plant past December 2019,”  the statement read. “Based on commitments made during 2016 contract negotiations, Unifor does not accept this announcement and is immediately calling on GM to live up to the spirit of that agreement."

Unifor also said it is scheduled to meet with GM officials tomorrow and expects to provide a comment afterwards.

Spokespeople for Federal Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains and Ontario Economic Development Minister Todd Smith were not immediately available for comment late Sunday when contacted by BNN Bloomberg.

GM currently employs roughly 2,500 union positions and 300 salaried positions in Oshawa, which is located east of Toronto.
