Max Porterfield, President and CEO of Visionary Copper and Gold Mines Inc. (TSXV: VCG | OTCQB: VCGMF), discusses the company’s plans to advance its 100%-owned Point Leamington Project in central Newfoundland. With global copper demand accelerating across electric vehicles and AI data centres, Visionary is positioning the project as a potential contributor to North America’s future copper supply.
A copper zone built for scale
Unlike frontier explorers, Visionary operates from a position of strength: a large, defined resource in a tier-one jurisdiction with immediate expansion potential. The Kraken Zone represents the company’s primary growth vector. According to Porterfield, “Our Phase 1 discovery hole intersected 75.8 metres of 0.45% copper, directly adjacent to the existing resource. [Subsequent Phase 1 holes crossing the Kraken horizon continued to return broad intervals of copper mineralization.]” This systematic approach to resource expansion, combined with the deposit’s proximity to provincial power infrastructure and mining-friendly jurisdiction, significantly reduces development risk and improves project economics compared to grassroots explorers.
A structural tailwind for copper
Global copper markets are reshaping. Copper trades above US$14,000 per tonne, market forecasts continue to point to tightening copper supply-demand fundamentals, and demand accelerates across electric vehicles (which use up to four times the copper of conventional cars) and AI data centres. Visionary’s defined polymetallic Mineral Resource, comprising 0.4 million gold-equivalent ounces in the Indicated category and 1.2 million gold-equivalent ounces in the Inferred category, combined with exploration upside, gives investors leveraged exposure to structural undersupply at an early-stage entry point. North America’s reliance on concentrated foreign supply chains has made domestic copper production a strategic priority.
Exploration leadership and Phase 2 readiness
Visionary recently appointed Jason Flight as Vice President of Exploration, bringing both exploration and mine development expertise from his work underground at the nearby Ming deposit, where he knows VMS systems intimately, and from advancing the Hammerdown Gold Project currently being advanced by New Found Gold. This proven experience positions the company to execute Phase 2 effectively, with drilling focused on expanding the Kraken Zone, which remains open in multiple directions. According to Porterfield, “Kraken is our main point of follow-up: step out, define it, and bring it to an updated resource.” Beyond Kraken, the company is advancing five regional targets across its 30,000-hectare package toward drill-ready status.
Positioning for Canadian copper supply
As Visionary advances Point Leamington through Phase 2 exploration, it stands at the intersection of North American supply security and copper demand acceleration. With 0.4 million gold-equivalent ounces in the Indicated category and 1.2 million gold-equivalent ounces in the Inferred category, an open-ended copper discovery zone, and exploration leadership now in place, the company is positioned to deliver meaningful exploration progress toward positioning Newfoundland as a cornerstone of North American copper production.

Max Porterfield: Visionary’s next three to six months are shaping up to be some of the most active and exciting in our company’s history. Copper is trading at record highs, above $14,000 a tonne this year, and forecasts are calling for a global supply deficit in the hundreds of thousands of tonnes in 2026 alone.
Demand is accelerating on every front. An electric vehicle uses up to four times the copper of a conventional car, and AI data centres are adding hundreds of thousands of tonnes of new annual demand. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty, trade tensions, tariffs, and supply chains concentrated in a handful of countries have turned that shortage into a strategic issue. North America needs to secure its own supply of critical metals, which has been overlooked for far too long.
Visionary is well positioned to be part of that answer. Our 100%-owned Point Leamington Project in central Newfoundland already hosts [a substantial VMS deposit containing] gold, copper, zinc, and silver, with [0.4 million gold-equivalent] ounces Indicated and [1.2 million gold-equivalent] ounces Inferred that starts at surface, just 20 kilometres away from the provincial power grid in one of the most mining-friendly jurisdictions in North America.
Discoveries are driven by people, and that is why I’m thrilled to share with you that Jason [Flight] will be joining us as Vice President of Exploration at Visionary. Jason brings a background not only in exploration, but also in mine development. He’s worked underground at the nearby Ming deposit. He knows these VMS systems like the back of his hand. He was also key in advancing the Hammerdown Gold Project that’s currently being advanced by New Found Gold. This is exactly the experience you need to advance a project like ours and to lead us into Phase 2.
The goal of Phase 2 is simple: upgrade and expand the existing resource beyond what’s defined today, with a key focus on the Kraken Zone. Let me revisit why Kraken matters. Our Phase 1 discovery hole intersected 75.8 metres of 0.45% copper, directly adjacent to the existing resource. [Subsequent Phase 1 holes crossing the Kraken horizon continued to return broad intervals of copper mineralization.]
Step-outs returned intervals like 22.5 metres of 0.53% copper and 52.7 metres of 0.3% copper, and the zone remains open in multiple directions. In that same program, we also extended the deposit’s strike to over one kilometre. Kraken is our main point of follow-up: step out, define it, and bring it to an updated resource.
Beyond the deposit, we’re also following up on five regional targets across our 30,000-hectare land package. These are targets originally advanced by BHP’s predecessor, Billiton, currently being refined to be drill-ready for Phase 2, with the potential for entirely new discoveries. The world needs more copper, and North America needs its own supply. Point Leamington is how Visionary answers both.
Significant gold and copper-rich deposits are already defined, a new copper zone is open in multiple directions, and a pipeline of new targets will be tested in a Phase 2 program led by proven exploration experience, designed to grow it all.
