TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the base metals sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 56.43 points at 35,359.77.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 132.95 points at 52,791.59. The S&P 500 index was down 13.12 points at 7,559.28, while the Nasdaq composite was down 212.17 points at 26,057.06.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.24 cents US compared with 71.18 cents US on Wednesday.
The September crude oil contract was down five cents US at US$79.07 per barrel.
The August gold contract was down US$52.70 at US$3,999.10 an ounce.
