S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading, U.S. stocks also lower

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index moved lower in late-morning trading amid losses in the financial and technology sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 51.14 points at 36,350.65.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 372.24 points at 53,090.81. The S&P 500 index was down 27.45 points at 7,680.53, while the Nasdaq composite was down 216.65 points at 26,114.44.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.58 cents US compared with 72.34 on Wednesday.

The October crude oil contract was up US$1.81 at US$86.20 per barrel.

The December gold contract was up US$35.90 at US$4,581.20 an ounce.
