S&P/TSX composite down more than 150 points, U.S. stock markets also lower

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 150 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the telecom sector, while U.S. stock markets also moved lower.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 176.65 points at 35,313.21.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 324.52 points at 51,156.99. The S&P 500 index was down 21.79 points at 7,661.90, while the Nasdaq composite was down 35.18 points at 26,785.20.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.46 cents US compared with 70.58 cents US on Monday.

The November crude oil contract was down 94 cents US at US$91.66 per barrel.

The December gold contract was up US$29.10 at US$4,197.50 an ounce.
