S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the energy and technology sectors, while U.S. markets climbed higher.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 45.62 points at 35,660.84.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 206.66 points at 51,556.64. The S&P 500 index was up 17.01 points at 7,721.14, while the Nasdaq composite was up 64.37 points at 27,003.74.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.71 cents US compared with 70.74 cents US on Thursday.

The November crude oil contract was down 62 cents US at US$93.99 per barrel.

The December gold contract was up US$12.50 at US$4,310.50 an ounce.
