TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 200 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the financial and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 212.23 points at 35,023.64.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 265.60 points at 50,640.45. The S&P 500 index was down 15.36 points at 7,636.18, while the Nasdaq composite was down 38.32 points at 26,822.74.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.19 cents US compared with 70.48 cents US on Tuesday.
The November crude oil contract was up US$2.14 at US$92.56 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$3.70 at US$4,183.00 an ounce.
