(Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. said it will invest $1 billion to fund companies and other organizations working on carbon reduction and removal technology to fight climate change.

The company also said it will be carbon negative, meaning it will remove more carbon than it emits, by 2030. Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced the steps at an event Thursday at the company’s Redmond, Washington campus.

“This is the decade for urgent action for Microsoft and all of us,” Nadella said.
