Mnuchin suggests his Twitter was compromised, deletes post

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he deleted a retweet posted on his Twitter account because it was published by someone who wasn’t authorized to do so.

Mnuchin didn’t specify which post was deleted but his account no longer shows a retweet that said General Motors should return the bailout funds it received since it’s cutting jobs in the U.S. That message was also retweeted by President Trump.

Treasury secretaries typically avoid commenting on particular U.S. companies. Mnuchin has until now kept to that tradition, even though other members of the administration and the president himself have done so repeatedly.

A Treasury Department spokesman didn’t immediately reply to an emailed request for comment.
