Montreal's housing market was scorching hot in April.

Home sales across the Montreal Census Metropolitan Area surged 10 per cent year-over-year last month as 5,432 properties traded hands.

Condo sales soared 18 per cent, while most of the activity in April was in the single-family home segment with 3,105 houses changing hands.

Buyers had less to choose from in the month, with active listings plummeting 17 per cent compared to April 2017.

Despite surging sales and tighter inventory, price growth was modest. The median price of a single-family home rose four per cent to $317,000 and the median condo price inched up two per cent to $245,350.
