Former Conservative Party leadership candidate Rick Peterson has a launched a non-profit that is vowing to "speak up for responsible resource development in Canada."

The grassroots organization, which formed less than two weeks ago, is planning to stage a massive rally in Vancouver on May 26, just days before Kinder Morgan's May 31 Trans Mountain deadline.

Suits and Boots took off after Peterson, president of Peterson Capital, which helps finance firms in Canada’s resource and technology sectors, posted on LinkedIn about the resource industry "getting our collective butts kicked in a big way" and received overwhelming support. The post came amid the Trans Mountain expansion "debacle,” which Peterson said should be a “wake-up call” for the resource industry.

“We’ve reached a tipping point in Canada where we really need more people to step up and get involved in this effort,” Peterson said in a release. “We’ve received a huge outpouring of support from Suits and Boots both across Canada, including B.C. and Alberta, but also Ontario and a Quebec.”

Peterson said his newly-formed organization – whose moniker was inspired by support he garnered in the investment industry and the oil patch - is working with other groups that have recently been successful in staging rallies in B.C. and Alberta to ensure “broad and wide support” for the upcoming rally in Vancouver.
