(Bloomberg) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered and guided a successful test of a newly developed “advanced tactical” weapon, the country’s state media reported Friday.

Kim visited a testing site at North Korea’s National Defense Institute and inspected the test of the weapon, according to the Korean Central News Agency. KCNA didn’t provide any details on the type of weapon, or whether it was related to North Korea’s nuclear program.

“The testing of the high-tech tactical weapon has been carried out successfully, meeting all superior and powerful designing indicators,” KCNA said in the report. “It is a great way to defend the territory of the country with iron barriers and strengthen the combat power of the people’s army,” it added.

The weapon test is the first one that Kim has overseen since November last year, when he observed the firing of the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile, according to Yonhap News. It comes as denuclearization talks between the U.S. and North Korea have stalled, and amid reports that Pyongyang may have restarted nuclear weapons development.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly touted North Korea’s move to halt tests of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles as a major accomplishment. The administration has more recently brushed off the slow pace of talks and reports about weapons development, saying a second summit with Kim is on track for next year.

“We fully know about the sites being discussed, nothing new - and nothing happening out of the normal,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday in response to a report identifying 13 undeclared missile bases. “I will be the first to let you know if things go bad!”

Kim has stepped up criticism of international sanctions against North Korea that have hindered his efforts to boost ties with South Korea and bolster the economy.
