(Bloomberg) -- Poland said it doesn’t want further talks on the European Union’s climate pact until it receives access to the bloc’s recovery package, now held up on concerns over rule-of law issues in Warsaw.
“The sequence must be clear: first the reconstruction fund, then the discussion on the climate package, and it should be on our terms,” Waldemar Duda, a deputy minister of EU funds and regional development, told broadcaster Polsat on Wednesday. “This means that this package does not increase the cost of energy.”
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki escalated the rule-of-law dispute with the EU this week, accusing the bloc of overstepping its authority. He told European lawmakers that the EU’s executive was using “financial blackmail” in delaying 36 billion euros ($42 billion) in stimulus funds.
