(Bloomberg) -- The Romanian Liberal Party asked other political forces in parliament to agree to a “truce” to support a minority government for a limited time to end a political crisis and see the country through the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.

After failing to secure support for a cabinet after five days of talks, Prime Minister-designate Nicolae Ciuca sent a letter on Tuesday to the leaders of the Social Democratic party and the USR, urging them to back a cabinet comprised by Liberals and ethnic Hungarians for a few months, party leader Florin Citu said.

“We can resume talks on a future governing coalition once we get through the winter and the current health crisis,” Citu said. “We can’t afford to play games with the citizens’ lives anymore.”

Ciuca has until Sunday to submit a government for parliamentary approval.
