Brent and WTI oil futures are trading higher for a third day in a row thanks to expectations the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries will start withholding supply soon. But here in Canada, Western Canadian Select crude is sitting at a record low under US$14 a barrel. Leaders in Canada’s energy patch are losing patience with the lack of support for the industry but Finance Minister Bill Morneau says there are no easy solutions to the historically low price for Canada’s oil.

BLACKBERRY TO BUY AI FIRM CYLANCE FOR US$1.4B

Blackberry is paying over $1 billion  for California-based Cylance. It’s an artificial intelligence and cybersecurity firm that develops products to prevent cyberattacks. The company is looking to expand its QNX division, which makes software for next-generation self-driving cars.

QUEBEC’S SECURITIES REGULATOR INVESTIGATING BOMBARDIER

Quebec's securities regulator is opening an investigation into Bombardier. The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is reviewing how the company implemented a special “share-sale program” for its executives back in August. Bombardier stock is trading more than 50 pert cent lower since the summer after the plane and train maker revised its cash flow guidance and sold off assets last week to help boost its balance sheet.
