U.S. futures and European indices are sliding this morning amid mounting concern about the coronavirus outbreak. China is reporting at least 80 deaths and almost 3,000 confirmed cases of the respiratory illness and government officials are extending the Lunar New Year holiday as part of their containment efforts. Meanwhile, Ontario just reported a second presumptive case of the virus and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there’s now five cases in America. As fear drives market sentiment, it’s important to point out that Canadian officials say risk to the public is low.
