Brady Fletcher, Managing Director, Head of TSX Venture Exchange at TMX Group, introduces the TSX Venture 50 and highlights the key measures used to identify the 2019 list of notable companies which include market capitalization growth, share price appreciation, and trading volume.

Why is the ranking important? Fletcher notes that TSX Venture Exchange stories become some of Canada’s biggest success stories. The success of TSXV-listed companies also has an enduring positive impact on the Canadian economy as these companies grow, and scale into larger, globally competitive companies. These companies then hire Canadians, spend with other Canadian companies, and pay corporate taxes to Canada.

With continued growth on the TSX Venture Exchange, Fletcher sees increased popularity in the cannabis sector, as well as more diversity of early stage companies looking to raise public venture capital in Canadian markets.

The 2019 Venture 50 is a ranking of top performers on the TSX Venture Exchange over the last year. The ranking is comprised of 10 companies from each of the five industry sectors, and they were selected based on three equally weighted criteria: market capitalization growth, share price appreciation and trading volume.
