U.S. President Donald Trump has fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, adding that he and the former Exxon chief executive “disagreed on things.” The departure of Tillerson, who will be replaced by CIA chief Mike Pompeo, comes after a long string of exits in Trump’s top ranks.

Sally Yates, Acting Attorney General

Yates was removed from her position after she refused to enforce Trump’s controversial travel ban.

Michael Flynn, National Security Adviser

Feb. 13, 2017

Flynn resigned after less than a month in office, after reports that he misled Vice-President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russia. He stepped down the same day Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made his first visit to the White House.

James Comey, FBI Director

May 9, 2017

President Trump fired Comey saying he could not “effectively lead” the FBI any longer and criticized his handling of the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails.

July 21, 2017

Spicer announced his resignation after boisterous Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci was hired as White House communications director.
