Tories to Meet to Discuss Another Vote on Boris Johnson’s Leadership
Bloomberg News
,(Bloomberg) -- The committee representing rank-and-file Conservative members of Parliament will use a meeting Wednesday to assess if there is enough support to change party rules to allow another vote on Boris Johnson’s leadership, a person familiar with the matter said.
While the 1922 Committee had been expected to wait for elections to its executive board before considering a rule change, the tide of opinion in the party has swelled in favor of another ballot, the person said.
It follows a string of resignations at Cabinet and junior ministerial level from Tuesday evening and into Wednesday.
Having narrowly surviving a confidence vote last month, Johnson was in theory immune form another challenge for a year. But such is the growing frustration at his leadership, a new ballot could come as soon as next week if there is enough support for it, according to the person.
