Trump Lawyer Eastman Sues for Return of Phone Seized by Agents
Bloomberg News
,(Bloomberg) -- A lawyer who advised Donald Trump on his elaborate plan to stay in power after losing the 2020 presidential election filed a lawsuit in New Mexico seeking the return of a mobile phone that he claims was seized by federal agents outside a restaurant last week.
John Eastman, the former dean of Chapman University’s law school, filed a petition for his iPhone Pro 12 device on Monday in federal court in Albuquerque, claiming he was served with a search warrant and frisked on June 22.
Eastman, whose name and documents have featured heavily at the House select committee hearings on the Jan. 6 insurrection, said in the complaint that the federal agents said they were from the FBI but “appeared to be executing a warrant issued at the behest of the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General.”
