Canada’s main stock index opened modestly higher on Tuesday, as investors reacted to the G7’s decision not take direct action as the impact of the coronavirus grows.
At 9:35 a.m. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was up 24.06 points, or 0.15 per cent, at 16,577.32.
Meanwhile, U.S. stocks opened mostly in the red. The Dow Jones Industrial Average began down 81.54 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 26,621.78. The S&P 500 opened 6.27 points lower, or 0.20 per cent, at 3,083.96. The Nasdaq Composite opened down 55.68 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 8,896.48.
