(Bloomberg) -- Typhoon Noru weakened on Wednesday as it made landfall in central Vietnam, where it is forecast to bring heavy rain, flash floods and landslides.
Noru’s eye was located in the central provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Ngai around 4 a.m. local time, with gusts up to 117 kilometers per hour, the national weather bureau said. The typhoon, the strongest the country has seen in two decades, was packing gusts as strong as 166 km/h on Tuesday.
Danang city as well as the provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and the coffee-planting province of Kon Tum will receive heavy rain of as much as 200 milimeters each with some locations likely to get more than 250 milimeters, the bureau said.

The storm is seen moving at 20 to 25 kilometers per hour mainly to the western mainland of central Vietnam in the next few hours before gradually weakening into a tropical depression. It is forecast to reach southern Laos later in the day.
