(Bloomberg) -- U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is set to close the government’s coronavirus wage support program to new entrants, as the country begins to lift its lockdown, according to a government official.

The furlough program pays workers 80% of their normal wages, up to 2,500 pounds ($3,080) a month, while they’re unable to work. From the start of August it will enter a new phase, where staff can return to work part-time, with their employers paying part of their wages.

In his announcement, expected to be made late this week or early next, Sunak is likely to set out how the employer contributions will work, said the official, who requested anonymity while discussing the policy.
