(Bloomberg) -- Janelle Jones, the first Black woman to serve as chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor, said she left her position Thursday after less than a year serving in the role.

Jones announced her departure on Twitter, saying that working in the administration “has been an incredible experience. And it ended today.” She didn’t specify the reason for the unexpected departure, and said she would spend all of February reading sci-fi and fantasy.

A spokesman for the Department of Labor and Jones didn’t immediately respond to requests seeking comment.

Jones was among a slate of Black economists picked by President Joe Biden’s administration when he was inaugurated last year, in a push to diversify key roles. She worked with Labor Secretary Marty Walsh and her research focused on ensuring a more equal economic recovery.
