Apple Inc. (AAPL.O) can’t be held liable for pre-suit damages in a patent complaint brought by chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM.O), one win in a sprawling fight between the two technology giants.

A federal judge in San Diego on Tuesday granted a request by Apple to preclude Qualcomm from seeking damages for any patent infringement before the lawsuit was filed. The case is scheduled for trial next month.
