Today’s the last day for Canadian industry leaders to formally have their say on the government’s counter-punch against the United States’ steel and aluminum tariffs. $16.6-billion in imports from the States are targeted in the feds’ dollar-for-dollar countermeasures, running the gamut from steel products to mayonnaise, whiskey and toilet paper. BNN Bloomberg's Jameson Berkow will focus on Ottawa’s strategy, and we’ll hear why the grassroots 'Buy Canadian' movement isn’t as easy as it sounds.

GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT ON TRADE

Canadian MPs and Senators are playing host to American Senators and members of the House of Representatives today in Ottawa for the Canada-U.S. IPG annual meeting. Great opportunity to get the message out. But does it really matter so long as U.S. President Donald Trump is flexing his muscle on Section 232? We’ll track developments.

Amazing growth posted today by Canada Goose. Full-year revenue surged 46 per cent to $591 million. Net income more than quadrupled to $96.1 million. And the parka maker isn't resting on its laurels, with a target for 20 per cent sales growth this fiscal year and plans for more standalone stores

TRUMP’S CHINA TARIFFS

No word on how or when details will be released, but Trump is said to have made up his mind on tariffs targeting US$50 billion worth of Chinese goods. We’ll watch for details and any reaction from Beijing.

TSX NEAR ALL-TIME HIGH

With yesterday’s 65-point gain, the TSX Composite Index closed 92.5 points shy of its all-time intraday high. We’ll be on alert today for a new record and will keep tabs on what’s led the way and what’s been left behind since records were notched on Jan. 4.

We’re speaking with John Beck this morning for the first time since the Trudeau government blocked his company’s sale to China Communications Construction Company. Looking forward to his perspective on being stymied, the implications for landing contracts, and his strategy for moving on without the deep-pocketed backing of a Chinese state-owned firm. Watch for it at 8:45 a.m. ET.
