Twitter Canada has named its third boss in just five years.

The social media company announced Tuesday that Paul Burns, a former vice president of digital at Shaw Communications, will become Twitter Canada’s managing director in July.

Burns, 37, joins Twitter after serving as managing director of Brooklyn-based digital agency Huge since 2015. At Huge, Burns worked with brands including Nike, Canada Goose and Toronto-Dominion Bank from its Toronto office.

Twitter has been searching for a new head of its Canadian division since August 2017, when Rory Capern abruptly left the company after just 18 months at the helm. Kirstine Stewart, one of Canada’s best-known media executives, led the launch of Twitter Canada in 2013 as the division’s first managing director.

The company also announced on Tuesday that Leanne Gibson, who served as interim managing director after Capern’s departure, has been named Twitter Canada’s head of revenue. She was previously head of agency development.

Twitter’s Canadian division currently employs 45 people.
