Samsung Electronics Co said on Tuesday it would stop making its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, after fires were reported in replacement phones. The announcement follows the company's recall in September of about 2.5 million Note 7 devices after reports that some had ignited due to faulty batteries.

Here's what you need to know if you own a Note 7 in Canada:

Q: What should you do with the Note 7?

A: Turn it off.  Right now. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 smartphone is now the subject of a global recall.  The company has stopped selling the device and discontinued production after reports the phone could ignite during charging. Samsung recommends you stop using the phone immediately and do not plug it in to recharge it.

Q: What’s the return/refund policy?

A: Starting Thursday, Oct. 13, Samsung Note 7 owners can return their device to where they bought it. Samsung Canada says authorized resellers will either exchange the device for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge device or provide a full refund.

Q: What should you do if you bought a Note 7 on Samsung.com?

A: Customers who bought their Note 7 devices from Samsung.com will be offered a refund upon receipt of the recalled device. Samsung says it will email details of the return process starting on Thursday.

Q:  What should you do with Note 7 accessories?

A: Galaxy Note 7 accessories can be returned to the original Samsung dealer for a full refund.

Q: Can I trust Samsung devices again?

A: Samsung has its work cut out for it rebuilding brand trust after the massive recall. The Internet has been flooded with videos of the smoldering phones and Samsung has yet to tell consumers what went wrong, and investors have already punished the stock. It is yet to be seen whether consumers will stick with Samsung, move to another Android-powered device, or make the big switch and opt for the latest Apple device.
