(Bloomberg) --

Ethiopia conducted airstrikes on Mekelle, the capital of the dissident Tigray region, on Monday as federal forces continue their attempt to take back ground lost to rebel fighters.

The soldiers said the latest attacks were targeted at weapons and media equipment used by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front “to destroy the country,” according to reports on state-owned Ethiopian Press Agency.

The aerial attacks follow a week of escalated fighting that’s seen both sides claim advances.
