The world investors face is fraught with volatility and complexity. Knowing where to invest your hard-earned money can be a difficult task, but it is an essential one for those who want to protect and grow their personal wealth.

To help investors make sense of the current environment, the Vancouver Resource Investor Conference comes together every year, bringing two days packed with advice from every angle of the commodities sector and giving investors the chance to meet with up to 250 exhibiting companies.

This year’s VRIC takes place January 21-22, 2024, at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building. Conference organizer Jay Martin is anticipating 6,000 investors to attend two days of keynote sessions, from over 80 speakers.

When it comes to why investors should attend this year’s event, Martin is straightforward: “Because we are, without question, in a new commodities supercycle and the VRIC is the one-stop shop for anybody who wants to hear from money managers and serially successful entrepreneurs who have been in this business for decades.”

“If I’ve done my job properly, you’ll find voices on the side of every thesis and argument.” — Jay Martin, CEO, Cambridge House and Host of the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference

End of globalization driving the commodities supercycle

That commodities supercycle is being driven by the end of the globalization era.

Martin states: “That era is over. And it’s been ending on the heels of some economic wars, currency wars, trading wars, and now literal hot wars and countries are reshuffling their geopolitical alliances and rethinking who they’re going to share their resources with.”

Simply put, countries are in a global struggle to secure the supplies of the stuff they need to keep their economies growing.

The struggle is showing up around the world, with the U.S. weaponizing its currency, Russia weaponizing oil and Indonesia weaponizing nickel. In addition to resource wars, we now face hot wars like the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Israel-Palestinian War.\

“Whenever something becomes scarcer or the supply of that resource becomes less secure, the value skyrockets because countries are willing to pay more to secure what they need. That’s my base case for the commodities market.”

Layered on top of this environment is the fact that the commodities sector has faced underinvestment over the past 15 years. That means there is not enough new supply coming online to meet the demand of the global scramble for commodities.

It’s a combination of forces that promises to make commodities a go-to sector for years to come and to make attending this year’s VRIC a must for those who want to take advantage.

Over 80 keynote speakers cover every angle of the commodities market

This year’s VRIC will feature presentations from the likes of Robert Kiyosaki, Danielle DiMartino Booth, Grant Williams, Rick Rule, Natalie Brunell, Ronnie Stoeferle, E.B. Tucker, Andy Schectman, Lynette Zang and Mark Moss.

The idea is to give investors as much variety as possible when it comes to opinions about the commodities market. Based on the premise that there’s no one size fits all to investing, the VRIC attempts to “bring as many strategies and personalities as possible to the stage and investors can choose their own adventure.”

There will be strategies for the long-term investor looking to secure their nest egg and strategies for the trader looking to rack up big short-term wins. Martin says: “If I’ve done my job properly, you’ll find voices on the side of every thesis and argument.”

Meet with company management

One of the key advantages the VRIC offers investors is the opportunity to meet with the management teams of exhibiting companies.

Mining exploration, perhaps more than most endeavours, is a people business, and the VRIC gives you a chance to interview the people who will be putting your money into the ground to find new deposits.

Most junior mining companies are small, entrepreneurial ventures run by two or three key people. Martin asserts: “There’s no other way to do due diligence in the mining sector than to meet with the human beings who you are investing in.”

You want to make sure a company’s game plan offers optionality, where there’s a Plan B, a Plan C, and even a Plan D. And you want to make sure the bios of the leadership team include a track record of past success or, as Martin puts it, “is this the type of person who puts the puck in the net?”

How to get the most out of your VRIC experience

The VRIC is set up to give the general admission attendee full access to all the speaker sessions, workshops and other events available over the two-day conference.

However, to optimize your conference experience, Martin encourages investors to take the 10-video course on commodities investing found on The Commodity University. Led by Martin and other industry legends like Rick Rule, The Commodity University, is tailor-made for anybody who wants to build a portfolio in the commodities sector.

Taking the commodities university course prior to attending the VRIC will put you “miles ahead of everybody else walking around the show floor,” according to Martin.

He also encourages attendees to consider purchasing a VIP Insiders Pass. The pass gets you front row seats in the speaker hall and a ticket to the VRIC’s exclusive speaker dinner on Sunday night. That will be your chance to meet the likes of Rule, DiMartino Booth and Kiyosaki in person. You’ll also get access to The Commodities University and a year of Martin’s paid newsletter.

Whether you attend general admittance or as a VIP Insider, the conference aims to be a marketplace of investment ideas for the commodities sector. If you believe that we have, indeed, entered a new supercycle for commodities, you’ll want to be sure to attend this information-packed, two-day conference.
