If you’re thinking of coming back from the dead, Halloween’s the perfect time – and that includes some of our most beloved tech devices.

Here’s a look at some of the phones that have been laid to rest over the years, courtesy of Asteck Wireless in Toronto.

THE BRICK PHONE

Starting in 1984, Motorola began manufacturing its DynaTAC phone. They’re more commonly known as bricks…or thick bricks.

Back then, these phones set you back a few thousand bucks and charging their batteries took half a day. But for those with aspirations of making it big – and even imitating the likes of Gordon Gekko — DynaTAC phones showed off status.

MOTOROLA BAG PHONES

In the early 90s, we graduated to bag phones. Motorola offered a line of phones with accompanying carrying cases. You could charge them in your car, and then take them into that important meeting with you.

THE ORIGINAL FLIP PHONE

Released in 1996, the Motorola StarTAC celebrates its 20th birthday this year. It’s often cited as the original flip phone, while others call it the “clamshell.”

Whatever you want to call it, it was a hot-seller — even at US$1,000.

THE M70A

Another one from the Motorola lineup, this phone had a flip function that served…pretty much no purpose.

BLACKBERRY 7210

The BlackBerry 7210 was released around 2003. Its battery charged well, and its blue colour had many people calling it the BlueBerry instead.

This phone one got investors excited too. At the time, the phone helped BlackBerry give rival phone maker Nokia a run for its money.

THE FIRST IPHONE

While many still use newer iterations of this smartphones today, the first iPhone was released by Apple more than nine years ago – and it’s not feeling like a relic.

It’s smaller, thicker and its photography technology is much simpler than iPhones today, but many remember when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs unveiled this to the world.
