Canada's largest chain of movie theatres has announced it will open its first multi-screen cinemas that are intended to offer a panoramic experience this summer.

Cineplex Entertainment (CGX.TO) says three theatres in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto will feature one screen in the front and two additional side screens, providing about 270 degrees of viewable space.

The Barco Escape theatre systems made their global debut nearly two years ago with the movie "The Maze Runner" in September 2014.

Cineplex says it is aiming to have the screens open in time for the premiere of the latest "Star Trek" movie on July 22.
