Kuwait’s ruler has accepted the government’s resignation, more than a month after the cabinet quit, plunging the OPEC member into political limbo and further delaying fiscal reforms. 

Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah accepted the resignation of the current line up, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, state-run KUNA news agency reported on Tuesday. The government was asked to continue in a caretaker capacity, meaning it can only tend to “urgent” matters. The acceptance of the resignation kicks off the process of forming a new cabinet.

Sheikh Sabah has led four governments in little more than two years, with the latest only formed in December. His tenure has been plagued by increased opposition in parliament and corruption scandals, some allegedly involving high-ranking officials.
