(Bloomberg) -- Synthesia Ltd. said 47% of the Fortune 100 list are customers for the British startup’s computer-generated avatars.

Chief Executive Officer Victor Riparbelli unveiled the statistic at the Bloomberg Technology Summit in London on Tuesday. In June, the startup said it had more than 50,000 companies, including 35% of those in the Fortune 100.

Synthesia’s artificial intelligence software lets people easily make videos featuring realistic-looking digital replicas, primarily for training videos and other corporate uses. One new customer is Zoom Video Communications Inc., which recently began using Synthesia videos to train its employees, the company has said.

AI technology to create “deepfakes” — fake pictures or videos indistinguishable from real ones — has made rapid strides recently, causing experts to warn about profound risk for finance and politics. In February, a research report identified state-backed groups that used Synthesia’s computer-generated avatars as fake news anchors to spread disinformation.

Riparbelli has said the company since placed restrictions on its tools for news and politics and added further guardrails around its AI. The startup also argues that its avatars, which are designed for businesses, are distinct from deepfakes intended to mislead people.

Formed in 2017, Synthesia raised $90 million in venture capital in June at a valuation of $1 billion.
